Zurich (German: Zürich), located 409 meters above sea level at the northern end of the Lake of Zurich on the Swiss central plateau, is charming and multifaceted. Its well-preserved Old Town lies on both banks of the River Limmat, which flows out of the lake in a northerly direction. With a population of 370,000, Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. The canton of the same name hosts 1.3 million inhabitants and is thus the country's most densely populated canton.
